White Plains is a major retail hub for Westchester County with a range of affordable to luxury options for all your shopping needs. The City’s downtown streets are dotted with the convenience of mom-and-pop variety shops and clothing stores, pharmacies, banks, hair and nail salons, and dry cleaners.
Several retail malls, including The Westchester, City Center, and The Source are located in downtown and offer everything from Nordstrom Rack, Burlington Coat Factory, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Target to Nordstrom’s, Neiman Marcus, Warby Parker, Anne Taylor, Urban Outfitters, and many other high-end national retail stores. Bloomingdale’s is located down the street from The Source.
There are a variety of food shopping choices in and around White Plains. Well-known supermarket chains such as ShopRite, Stop & Shop, and Whole Foods are located in downtown White Plains. The Asian-oriented food market, H-Mart, and the popular Trader Joe’s are just a short car, bus, or taxi ride away on Central Avenue in neighboring Hartsdale.
The City of White Plains hosts a downtown farmer’s market on Wednesdays from April to November offering a broad range of vendors featuring fresh vegetables, baked goods, prepared foods, and other comestible delights.

White Plains Parks & Recreation
The White Plains Recreation and Parks Department maintains and operates a variety of recreation and social programs, services, and facilities for youth, adult, and senior residents. Seasonal guides are available from the department, which describe program offerings. Recreation facilities include an ice rink, tennis courts, playgrounds, 2 pools, and community centers. Gardella Park is located under a mile from the Community and offers a public swimming pool, playground, picnic areas, ball fields, and more.

Healthcare
White Plains Hospital is located on East Post Road, just 1/3 of a mile from 6 Cottage. The hospital is a member of the Montefiore Health System, which serves Westchester County and the surrounding areas. It is a 292-bed not-for-profit health care organization providing acute medical care. In 2025, White Plains Hospital was named to Money’s ‘Best Hospitals in America.’ The hospital is currently undergoing a 475,000 square foot, 10-story expansion that will increase bed capacity, add operating suites, and expand the emergency department. Several acute and sub-acute medical facilities, as well as urgent care facilities, are also located in White Plains. Additionally, a number of physical therapy providers are located in downtown White Plains.

Public & Private Schools
Known for its commitment to academic excellence, the White Plains School District regularly attains above-average state test scores. The district sponsors a wide range of extracurricular activities to help students realize their full potential.
The White Plains Public School District has five K-5 elementary schools and operates a “Controlled Parents’ Choice Program” that ensures diversity and socioeconomic balance among the schools. All elementary schools provide full-day kindergarten. Busing is provided free of charge for all K-5 students who live more than ½ mile from their assigned elementary school.
Sixth graders attend the White Plains Middle School Eastview Campus (350 Main Street, .3 miles from the Community) and 7th and 8th graders go to the Highlands Campus (128 Grandview Avenue, 1.2 miles from the Community). White Plains High School is located at 550 North Street, approximately 2.2 miles from the Community.
